BLIGATORY Picks
Hotline TNT - Raspberry Moon
Shoegaze, Noise Pop, Power Pop
via Third Man Records
write-up by Dominick Baglivo
Fronted by Will Anderson, Brooklyn’s Hotline TNT just shared album number three, Raspberry Moon. In contrast to previous LPs Cartwheel (2023) and Nineteen in Love (2021), the shoegaze/power pop outfit’s new record is the first to be written as a full band. With Anderson joined by Lucky Hunter (guitar), Haylen Trammel (bass), and Mike Ralston (drums), the collaborative effort proves fruitful on the rich, endearing, and incredibly catchy Raspberry Moon.
Wiring - Like a Porcelain Lamb
Math Rock, Indie Rock
via Interluxe Distribution
write-up by Dominick Baglivo
NYC four-piece Wiring make punchy, often mathy, and sometimes crunchy indie rock. Following their 2023 debut, Of Good Fortune, the band just dropped their second album, Like a Porcelain Lamb.
There’s still time to get in early on one of the finest up-and-coming bands in ‘guitar music’ today. Like a Porcelain Lamb is out now via Interluxe Distribution. Catch Wiring on tour with Boston’s Main Era in the following cities: Philly (7/1), Baltimore (7/2), Reading, PA (7/3), Pittsburgh (7/5), Dayton, OH (7/6), Louisville, KY (7/8), Bloomington, IN (7/9), Chicago (7/10), Albany, NY (7/12).
Flooding - "depictions of the female body"
Noise Rock
Self-Released
write-up by Dominick Baglivo
Kansas City trio Flooding are masters of crushing, teeth-gritting noise rock. From their 2021 self-titled debut to 2023’s phenomenal Silhouette Machine, Rose Brown (guitar/vocals), Cole Billings (bass), and Zach Cunningham (drums) have proved to be a formidable name in the realms of slowcore, noise rock, and all things heavy.
Flooding began their 2025 supporting LA’s Cryogeyser on tour, which wrapped up on May 4 with a show in San Francisco. With a run of four headlining shows on their way back, the trio shared “your silence is my favorite song” on the same night (May 6) they played at El Cid in Los Angeles.
This week, Flooding share their second single of the year, “depictions of the female body.” It’s a tense and feedback-heavy offering that sees Brown and co. wrestling with desire. Brown explains, “Sexual fantasies are a form of hope. If you’re ever horribly depressed, you should try having a crush on someone.”
Both “depictions of the female body” and “your silence is my favorite song” appear on Flooding’s freshly announced EP, object 1, which is out July 11.
Halloween - "Spiral Staircase"
Experimental Rock, Post-Punk, Noise Rock
via Funeral Party Records
write-up by Peter Doherty
Philly's Halloween release "Spiral Staircase," the lead single from the band’s first full-length, Shadow House. Set to release on August 8, Shadow House promises to tickle the quirky tastebuds that patiently await their turn.
"Spiral Staircase" is out now via Louisville, Kentucky-based label Funeral Party Records.
Nourished by Time - "9 2 5"
Outsider House, Alt. R&B
via XL Recordings
pôt-pot - "WRSW"
Post-Punk, Krautrock
via felte
write-up by Peter Doherty
Pôt-Pot are a five-piece consisting of a mix of Irish and Portuguese members. "WRSW" is their latest release and lead single to their upcoming debut album. "WRSW" is a searching piece of psychedelically tinted post-punk. Momentum drives the track forward. The groove is Krautrock-y and incessant.
How can we get there, can we get there?
Pôt-pot's debut album, Warsaw 480km, is out September 19 via felte.
Wednesday - "Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)"
Slacker Rock, Noise Pop
via Dead Oceans
write-up by Dominick Baglivo
Last month, Wednesday shared “Elderberry Wine,” their first single since 2023’s fantastic Rat Saw God. The Asheville-based indie rock band is back this week with “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On),” and news about their next record. Immediately slotting in as one of this year’s most anticipated releases, Bleeds is out in September.
Unlike the sweet and gentle touch of “Elderberry Wine,” “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)” has a certain grittiness to it. Backed by a wash of guitars and thick percussion, Karly Hartzman’s abilities as a lyricist and vocalist are fierce.
“This song is inspired by a story my friend told me, from when he had to pull a body out of a creek in West Virginia. Someone had drowned but they took a few days to resurface because of the current,” Hartzman explains.
Like a series of vignettes, “Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)” really hammers down on striking, but very real and grounded, imagery with lines like “Mounted antlers in the kitchen on a crooked nail / Other killers keep teeth keep the fingernails.” Hartzman’s excellence in this regard—alongside great bandmates, of course, in MJ Lenderman (guitar), Alan Miller (drummer), Xandy Chelmis (lap steel), and Ethan Baechtold (bass)—is in large part what has gotten Wednesday to this point. Whether you wanna point to “Bull Believer,” “Bath County,” “What’s So Funny,” or virtually any track from Rat Saw God, Hartzman and co. always deliver gems.
“Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God, and I think the quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album,” Hartzman said of the new LP. “This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like. We’ve devoted a lot of our lives to figuring this out — and I feel like we did.”
Bleeds, Wednesday’s fifth album, is out September 19 on Dead Oceans.
Winter - "Misery" (ft. Horse Jumper of Love)
Dream Pop, Shoegaze
via Winspear
write-up by Dominick Baglivo
In February, Samira Winter kicked off her 2025 with Water Season, a collaborative EP with Philly. She also made an appearance on natural, the sophomore album from Brazilian shoegazers terraplana. Looking to leave another mark before summer’s end, Winter is ramping up for her new record, Adult Romantix.
Following last month’s fun, springy, and nostalgic lead single, “Just Like A Flower,” Winter’s second offering, “Misery,” as you could gather from the name, leans into a bit of sadness. Featuring Horse Jumper of Love frontman Dimitri Giannopoulos on the track’s second verse, it’s an exercise in melodrama atop some dreamy, guitar-driven pop with a grungy overlay.
“This song was written with my friend Alex Craig. At first, we imagined a fictional story about being in love with someone who was unavailable, leaning into the romanticization of indulging in a kind of sadness. However, during the recording process, the story of Elliott Smith’s love and tragic death came up, which in turn inspired the song title and the rest of the lyrics written by Dimitri,” explains Winter. “The song was originally written at a faster tempo, but we discovered that slowing it down on the tape machine created an interesting androgynous effect on my voice.”
Adult Romantix is out August 22 on Winspear. About a month after the album’s release, Winter will head out on a US tour, supported by one of two Philly acts—A Country Western and Hooky—on most dates. Find the full dates here.

Post-Punk, Indie Rock
via Tough Love
PARKiNG - PORTRAiTS
Post-Punk, Experimental Rock, Drone
via Screaming Ears Records
Automatic - "Is It Now?"
Post-Punk, Minimal Synth
via Stones Throw
Sharing the title track from their upcoming third album, Automatic’s “Is It Now?” marks the band’s first new song since their 2022 album, Excess. This one aligns with so much of what the Los Angeles-based trio of Izzy Glaudini (synths, vocals), Halle Saxon (bass, vocals), and Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) do best: shiny and semi-eerie synths, a thick, chugging bassline, and a constant forward momentum.
“The thing I think about the most on a day-to-day basis is: how do you have a sense of joy while the world seems to be collapsing, and you feel so powerless? I feel like, as American citizens, we have a responsibility to pull the levers to stop the machine,” says Glaudini. “'Is It Now?' is about trying to not feel like a victim in this environment. It’s important to still feel a sense of joy, even amongst all the horrible shit going on in the world.”
While the full details have yet to be revealed, Is It Now? is set to release this fall on Stones Throw. Starting in September, Automatic is co-headlining a tour with Sextile. Find the full dates here.
forever★ - "Blade Silver Metallic"
Atmospheric Drum and Bass, Shoegaze
via à La Carte Records
David Chavez and Rachel Stang are forever★, a relatively new duo out of Kansas City, Missouri. In 2023, the pairing shared three absolutely bonkers tracks on 3 Series. As beautiful as it is chaotic, their music is shifty and very much on the cutting-edge of shoegaze, indietronica, and experimental music as a whole.
This week, forever★ announced plans for a new EP and shared the opening track, “Blade Silver Metallic.” Dense blasts of sputtering percussion collide with walls of heavy and shimmering guitars on here for a fusion of sounds that few acts are even attempting.
Second Gen Dream is out August 29 on à La Carte Records.
Soup Dreams - "Radiator Baby"
Power Pop, Jangle Pop, Indie Rock
via Pleasure Tapes / Candlepin Records
The debut album from Philly’s Soup Dreams is on the way! The four-piece shared the Twigs for Burning EP last year, and now look to follow-up with Hellbender right as the seasons change. With lead single “Radiator Baby,” Soup Dreams hit on a catchy and jangly power pop sound, a noticeable departure from the folk-rock style of that EP. Hellbender is out September 19 on Pleasure Tapes and Candlepin Records.
Wombo - "Neon Bog"
Post-Punk
via Fire Talk Records
Louisville trio Wombo deliver dark and off-kilter post-punk on “Neon Bog.” Following last month’s “Danger In Fives,” it’s the second single they’ve shared from their upcoming third album, Danger In Fives.
“'Neon Bog’ is a song about a simple time I had with a friend and reflecting back on that and how relationships change over time,” says vocalist and bassist Sydney Chadwick. “And how things get murky kind of like how the song feels which inspired the lyrics for me.”
Danger In Fives is out August 8 on Fire Talk. Following its release, Wombo will hit the road for a US tour, plus some UK/EU dates. Find the full list of dates here.
Worlds Worst - "Gas Hands"
Indie Rock, Post-Grunge
via Smoking Room / Julia's War
About three weeks ago, the Salt Lake City four-piece Worlds Worst announced a new record alongside the fuzzed-out “Angus.” Sharing the second single from American Muscle this week, “Gas Hands” is a jumpy and energetic burst of modern grunge.
Put simply, Worlds Worst is one of the coolest bands out right now. ‘Post-grunge’ reclamation is in full effect. Don’t sleep.
American Muscle, the second LP from Worlds Worst, is out July 11 via Smoking Room (vinyl) and Julia’s War Recordings (cassette). In the same week, they will hit the road for a summer tour with Houston’s Shallowater. Worlds Worst will also be playing the upcoming Julia’s War Fest (7/18-7/20 in Philly), which will also see performances from MSPAINT, Fib, Bedridden, and more. Find the full list of dates here.
And for the sake of brevity, seven more singles I liked this week in a condensed fashion:
Irish singer-songwriter Joel Johnston (as Far Caspian) shares the title track from Autofiction, which is out July 25 on Tiny Library Records and Dance To The Radio.
Los Angeles’ GOON share the hazy, dreamlike “Begin Here,” the third single from their upcoming third album. Dream 3 is out July 11 on Born Losers Records.
Rugged garage rock from Laurel Canyon with their new standalone single, “Stranger.” (Agitated Records)
Sharp, pointed indie rock from Atlanta trio Omni on “Forever Beginner.” (Sub Pop)
Is deconstructed pop a term we’re throwing around yet? “JIVE,” the new single from London’s Sorry, might fit the bill when we get there. (Domino)
As they do, Atlanta punks Upchuck rip on their latest single, the Ty Segall-produced “Plastic.”
Manchester’s Westside Cowboy share a Western-tinged burst of power pop with “Alright Alright Alright,” the lead single from their upcoming debut EP. This Better Be Something Great is out August 8 via Nice Swan and Heist or Hit.
Peter's Picks
All Under Heaven / High. - "Moving On" / "Someone You Adore"
Alt. Rock, Shoegaze
via Sunday Drive Records
New Jersey comes together as Freehold, New Jersey's All Under Heaven and Boonton, New Jersey's High. share sonic space on their latest 7" split, which comes via the San Antonio, Texas-based label, Sunday Drive Records.
"I know what you're thinking; I know that you're wrong." All Under Heaven are well and truly sick of your shit. The title of the track says it all, they're moving on.
High. ponder the question of "CAN YOU FEEL HAPPINESS WHEN YOU'RE DEAD" on their Bandcamp page. The answer is more than likely no, but who's around to confirm the question?!? That doesn't stop High. from getting on with their craft as they create hazy, intentionally opaque, and intentionally great, soundscapes with "Someone You Adore."
The "Moving On/Someone You Adore" 7" split is out now via Sunday Drive Records.
bar italia - "Cowbella"
Post-Punk Revival
via Matador Records
The sleazy sounds of London three-piece bar italia squeeze their way through the band’s nasal passages and takes the shape of a grungy, fizzy bath bomb—the track bubbling in its own grit.
bar italia are yet to announce a new project, but Double Virgo—the member-adjacent project of Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton—will release their new album, Shakedown, on July 3.
bar italia tour Europe in October and will North America in November. Find the full list of dates here.
Just Mustard - "POLLYANNA"
Dream Pop, Indie Rock
via Partisan Records
Just Mustard return with their first piece of new material in three years. The signature sliver of industrial etherealities takes the shape of "Pollyanna." The term "industrial etherealities" could also be re-phrased as "cotton-candy-nightmares" within the context of Dundalk's Just Mustard. The freshest slice of what Ireland has to offer, "Pollyanna" is out now via Partisan Records.
Along with "Pollyanna," Just Mustard announced a handful of live dates. Catch the Just Musts in New York, Berlin, Paris, and London in September, as well as a handful of festival dates. Fingers are indeed crossed for a more extensive list in the near future. Find the full list of dates here.
Primaveras - "Between Lines"
Post-Punk Revival
Self-Released
Primaveras exude the raucous energy that many greats in the past have. Taking notes from the books of The Jam and Arctic Monkeys, The Prims balance ruggedness with wit and loose charm.
“Between Lines started as a short jam after a gig, just a guitar riff and a half-written verse,” says frontman Tobey Hall. “It’s about being unsure in the things you're doing day to day and trying to reconnect with what really matters to you. Over time, the track evolved into something bigger than we expected – darker, louder, and more honest."
If you read between the lines, everything rhymes, it's all the same. "Between Lines" is out now!
